Eddie Hearn has confirmed that a rematch between IBF/WBA/IBO Heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and former world champion Wladimir Klitschko is set to take place next after an exception was granted to Anthony Joshua by the IBF in order to bypass his mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev.

Prior to the exception, Joshua faced the possibility of being stripped of his IBF title had he not faced his mandatory challenger Pulev. With the exception, the IBF stipulated that the rematch must take place before December 2.

“We’re looking at all the potential sites for the rematch. It’s not really a case of them having to let us know by a certain date. For us, it’s happening,”

“Until [Klitschko] turns round and says ‘no, I’m retiring,’ we’re full steam ahead. At the moment all I can tell you is that it’s happening because we haven’t heard otherwise.
— Eddie Hearn

Hearn has suggested October as the likely timeframe for Joshua’s return to the ring, revealing four potential locations interested in hosting the fight.

“We’re looking at America, Nigeria, Dubai or Cardiff,”

It'll be interesting to see how things shape up as negotiations start taking place. One thing is for sure, this is going to be a great fight for boxing fans worldwide.
