Canelo Alvarez presented with the WBC Middleweight World Title in Mexico City
Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, the current WBC, RING Magazine and Lineal Middleweight World Champion, was presented today with the WBC Diamond belt by Mauricio Sulaiman, President of the World Boxing Council (WBC) in Mexico City. Golden Boy Promotions Chairman and CEO Oscar De La Hoya was also in attendance for the ceremony.
"I feel very honored to be here today to and receive the WBC Middleweight World Championship belt," said Canelo Alvarez. "I am also very grateful to the WBC for granting me, my second division world title, this is a very big step in my career and I am looking forward to my upcoming fight in May."

Alvarez won the WBC Middleweight World Championship on November 21, 2015 defeating Puerto Rican star and four division World Champion and future Hall of Famer Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) via unanimous decision at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
The fight was hyped as a sure classic featuring two of boxing's biggest stars, both with fan-friendly all action styles. The fight ultimately went the distance seeing both fighter's implementing their strategies to perfection. Miguel Cotto boxing beautifully in and out and Canelo banging with thunderous power shots and combinations. When it was all said and done, Canelo proved to be too much for Cotto, landing the more telling blows and scoring a unanimous decision victory.
