LAS VEGAS - The matchup between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin is just under three weeks after the crossover event between Floyd Mayweather and the UFC's Conor McGregor.
Alvarez, his team and Golden Boy Promotions held an international media conference call this week and the 27-year-old three-time world champion was asked about a McGregor bout in the future if Mayweather happens to take his first loss.
"If that miracle was to happen, then it's a different conversation," Canelo said. "You know, if that miracle was to happen. But I doubt it very much."
Before the Mayweather-McGregor event was announced, Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya had made it known in a video that McGregor should fight Alvarez instead. Aside from Mayweather, Alvarez is the next biggest draw in the sport of boxing (with Anthony Joshua slowly making his way up) and, in terms of a monetary perspective, a bout between McGregor and Alvarez should produce high amounts of financial gain.
