Gennady Golovkin-Danny Jacobs is on for March
December 17, 2016
NEW YORK - The middleweight monster, Gennady Golovkin, has finally secured a bout with fellow world title holder, Danny Jacobs as both will square off at Madison Square Garden on March 18, 2017.
Golovkin, 34, tweeted out on Saturday afternoon that a deal had been reached and the anticipated bout was official. Many fans and pundits had low expectations for this fight, as both fighters have their respective contracts (Golovkin - HBO and Jacobs - Showtime) with competing networks. However, throughout the last several days, reports of positive negotiations increased the likelihood of a 160 pound clash.
HBO will carry the bout, which reveals that Golovkin's (36-0, 33 KOs) stock assisted in the negotiations. Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) last fought in a TKO victory over Sergio Mora back in September. Golovkin also fought in September as he gained the stoppage of Kell Brook over in the United Kingdom. Ticket information for the bout should follow within the coming weeks.
