Gennady Golovkin's promoter, Tom Loeffler, offered details about his response to the recent offer made by Canelo Alvarez and Golden Boy Promotions for a September super fight between Gennady Golovkin and  Canelo Alvarez.

Loeffler stated that he has prepared a handwritten, undisclosed counteroffer to Golden Boy to fight Alvarez after Oscar De La Hoya made a statement that he could pay Golovkin upwards of $10 million plus a percentage of the pay-per-view revenue generated.

“A flat fee for a fight is usually given to a fighter or contender who’s clearly the ‘B’ side,” Loeffler told The Times. “My offer back to [Golden Boy] was based on a percentage, just like we saw in the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao agreement.”

Alvarez is coming off an impressive stoppage win over Britain's Liam Smith. Alvarez captured the WBO junior middleweight title dropping the former champion Smith three times en route to victory.

After the fight, it was discovered that Canelo Alvarez had fractured his right thumb which will sideline him from action for the remainder of the year.

Golovkin meanwhile is scheduled to fight once again in December, presumably against WBA interim champion Danny Jacobs.
