PUERTO RICO – Golden Boy Promotions along with Miguel Cotto promotions put on the first of many shows to be held in Puerto Rico. On ESPN in the city of Ponce, a battle of the famed boxing rivalry between Puerto Rico and Mexico took place. Puerto Rico’s Alberto Machado (18-0, 15 KOs) faced Mexico’s Carlos Morales (16-2-3, 6 KOs).  Machado was taken the distance for the first time in his career against Morales going the full ten rounds.

The Puerto Rican was able to score a knockdown in the second round to help him secure a unanimous decision victory. Machado retained his NABO Super Featherweight (130) championship with scores of 99-90 twice and 98-91. Morales was able to push Machado in the later rounds and seemed to stun the young Puerto Rican in the ninth round. Overall, this was a real test for Machado in dealing with an opponent who would keep coming even after being hurt. In a stacked division like super featherweight featuring fighters like Gervonta Davis and Vasyl Lomachenko, Machado could use more seasoning before stepping up against the elite in the weight class.

On the undercard in Bantamweight (118) action Brooklyn’s Nate Green (9-0, 2 KOs) scored a controversial unanimous decision over Emmanuel Rivera (17-2, 11 KOs) in an eight-round bout. Rivera hurt Green several times during the fight and scored a knockdown in the second round. All three judges had the same scorecard of 77-74 in favor of Green.

Starting off the telecast, Edwin Rodriguez (9-4, 5 KOs) scored a majority decision victory over Juan Carlos Camacho Jr. (6-1, 4 KOs) in an action-packed six-round fight. The two Super Flyweights (115) went back and forth for all six rounds providing the local crowd with plenty of excitement. The scorecards were 58-56 twice and one card of 57-57.

On the card shown on ESPN3 Milwaukee’s Luis Feliciano improved his record to 3-0 as he won a unanimous decision over Jimmy Rosario (2-5, 1 KO).
