So far, 2016 is off to a good start for the heavyweight division. For the first time in 115 years, Brooklyn, NY hosted a heavyweight title fight. In fact, two heavyweight title fights took place in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center in one night.

Deontay Wilder (WBC Champion) and Charles Martin (IBF Champion) accomplished something that hasn’t been done since 2003. Both became the first two U.S. heavyweights to hold titles simultaneously since Chris Byrd (IBF Champion) and Roy Jones Jr. (WBA Champion) accomplished the same feat after Byrd defeated Evander Holyfield and Jones Jr. defeated John Ruiz. Since then, the heavyweight division has been largely dominated by Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko.

The recent accomplishment of Wilder and Martin comes at a time when the heavyweight division is becoming a hot topic once again and sparking much interest and debate amongst boxing fans. With the politics of the sport dictating a lot of what happens at the lower divisions, the heavyweight division has given fans great match-ups lately.

Although not every fight is as action packed as some may like, fans are getting to see the best fight the best. If the past couple of months are any sign, boxing fans are in for a treat with the heavyweight division.

The United States, and across the pond in the United Kingdom there are some top level heavyweights on the rise and these men are filling seats and bringing a new attitude to the division.  This is prompting fans to generate lots of  “What if” scenarios and this is great for the sport of boxing.

With the rate at which the heavyweight division is moving, it is only a matter of time before boxing fans get a U.S. vs U.K. heavyweight showdown!
