Kell Brook says Errol Spence Jr. is next
By Joseph Correa
IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) had the internet buzzing as he announced via Twitter that his next opponent will be unbeaten rising star and current mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs).
Both sides are close to finalizing a deal with a purse bid to take place on Tuesday. Negotiations between Brook and Amir Khan fell apart when the two could not agree on the purse split leaving Spence as a very attractive alternative.
Brook's last outing was at 160 pounds this past September where he was stopped by middleweight kingpin Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) in a fight that saw a very game Brook come to fight.
Most of the boxing world, including Brook's own team, believed he would make the move to 154 pounds after suffering the defeat as it seemed to be the natural progression for Brook who is considered a big welterweight.
Brook has other plans stating:
If purse bid negotiations begin there will be a 75-25 split in favor of Kell Brook. Furthermore, the fight will certainly take place in the U.K. with a possible date to be set in early summer.
