BARCELONA, SPAIN - Coming off the first ever professional loss of his career, Liam Smith is looking to get back into the victory column on April 8, as he takes on Liam Williams at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. But, before then, Smith battled a man with 38 losses in an official four-round bout over this past weekend.
The 25-year-old Smith picked a good weekend to avoid as much attention as possible (due to the Gennady Golovkin-Danny Jacobs bout), and was able to gain the points victory over Romania journeymen Marian Cazacu (2-38-1). The small event featured mostly Spaniard prospects, in addition to Smith's bout.
A possible reason behind the unusual short bout at such close proximity to the William's fight, could be that Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is possibly stripped (or drops) of his 154 WBO world title that was won from Smith last year at Texas' AT&T Stadium. With Alvarez fighting Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in May above the standard junior middleweight limit, the title will most likely be up for grabs at some point in the future.
