Fighting out of the Ukraine and arguably a top ten pound-for-pound fighter in the sport, Vasyl Lomachenko, will take on probably his most toughest challenge to date as he steps into the ring with former featherweight world title holder, Nicholas Walters, on November 26, from Las Vegas.
First reported by Dan Rafael of ESPN, Top Rank had already essentially confirmed Lomachenko (6-1. 4 KOs) would return at the end of November, however, his opponent had yet to be named. Walters, who is from Jamaica, is one of the most prominent fighters in the super-featherweight division and a potential matchup between these two was inevitable.
These two have a solid chance at taking fight-of-the-year honors, but it would have to produce immense fireworks to compete with the likes of Francisco Vargas-Orlando Salido, Keith Thurman-Shawn Porter and Leo Santa Cruz-Carl Frampton. Lomachenko, 28, is coming off knockout victory against Roman Martinez back in June, while Walters (26-0-1, 21 KOs) gained a decision win against Jason Sosa in December of 2015.
The fight will be at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas and will be broadcasted through HBO. The WBO super-featherweight world title will be on the line.
