Tonight at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York.

Luis Ortiz showed that he is a prime candidate and contender for a heavyweight title shot. The bout was a back and forth affair where both men traded rounds and punches. Ortiz’s power and precision ended up being the difference in the bout.

Luis Ortiz started off with a great first round. He hurt Jennings multiple times with right hooks and straight left hands. Ortiz’s punches wobbled Jennings and sent him across the ring after exchanges. Ortiz also highlighted the round with great work to the body.

Bryant Jennings came out in the second round to completely change the momentum of the bout. Jennings decided to take his chances on the inside with Ortiz rather than the outisde. Jennings was able to land right hands and uppercuts on Ortiz. A great comeback round for Jennings.

Ortiz’s punches had a greater effect on Jennings than vice versa. Ortiz at this point was landing the cleaner punches, but it seemed that Ortiz was likely unable to keep up the pace of the bout for much longer.

The fourth round saw Jennings outwork Ortiz who seemed to be slowing down. The fight was very close and the momentum was switching from round to round.

Unknown to the HBO commentators of the bout, Ortiz was landing some very hard body punches on Jennings. The body shots were perfectly timed and placed. Ortiz was back in control for the fifth round.

Both men came out swinging in the sixth round. Jennings lateral movement in the round was giving Ortiz some issues. Ortiz was really unable to let his hands go in the round and it was much closer because of it.

Ortiz in the seventh round landed a great combination of a left uppercut and right uppercut to lay Jennings down face first.  Ortiz finished him off a right hook and left hand that wobbled Jennings on the ropes forcing the referee to stop the bout.  The bout came to an end at the 2:41 mark of the seventh round.  The uppercut combination that dropped Jennings has to be considered one of the best knockdowns in the sport this year as it was beautiful and brutal from its execution to its force behind it.
