After weeks of rumors, Golden Boy Promotions has officially announced that Puerto Rican four-division champion Miguel Cotto (41-5, 33 KOs) will make his final appearance inside the squared circle against Brooklyn, New York’s Sadam “World Kid” Ali (25-1, 14 KOs). Cotto will put his WBO 154-pound title on the line in a 12-round bout. The fight will take place at the famed Madison Square Garden in New York on December 2nd.
This will mark the 10th time Cotto has fought in Madison Square Garden. The four-division champion has fought some of the biggest names in the sport throughout his career including fighters like Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Shane Mosley, Sergio Martinez and Canelo Alvarez.
Cotto’s opponent, Ali is a former U.S. Olympian and has fought some tough contenders in the welterweight division. He is best known for his 2016 attempt at a world title when he faced Jessie Vargas for the vacant WBO welterweight title. That night Vargas came out victorious with a ninth-round stoppage. Ali looks forward to getting another opportunity at a world title against a future Hall-of-Famer like Cotto.
