Mikey Garcia knocks out Dejan Zlaticanin, wins 135 title
January 28, 2017
LAS VEGAS - In only his second bout back from an almost three year layoff, Mikey Garcia once again captured gold, as he connected with a sweeping right hook that sent Dejan Zlaticanin to defeat, in the co-feature of the Carl Frampton-Leo Santa Cruz Showtime card from the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Garcia, 29, was easily outboxing the Montenegro fighter, who couldn't seem to make a dent into his [Garcia's] offense. The Mexican-American fans showed up in droves in support of Garcia, who resides in Moreno Valley, California. The final blow came with 2:21 remaining in the third round, which had the 32-year-old Zlaticanin seemingly lifeless on the ring floor.
Garcia was able to gain his 36th victory as a professional, while Zlaticanin tasted defeat for the first time in his career. Other notable lightweight world title holders are the names such as Jorge Linares (WBA), Robert Easter Jr. (IBF) and Terry Flanagan (WBO). Linares would be a great fight between two Mexican fighters, if the two end up meeting down the line in a unification bout. LInares just has to get past Anthony Crolla one more time in their rematch on March 25.
