Manny Pacquiao set to take on Timothy Bradley for a third time in 2016

Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) will be squaring off once again with one of his stablemates in WBO welterweight champion Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs)

It is said that the fight will take place April 9th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada per Bob Arum. This will be the third fight between these two, the last being in 2014 which saw Pacquiao come out on top beating Bradley via a 12 round decision. Prior to that in 2012 Bradley won what was thought to be a controversial 12 round decision over Pacquiao that many fans dispute passionately. The two fighters are even at 1 fight a piece and look to establish a clear victory for winner in the rubber match.

There hasn't been much interest in a Pacquiao-Bradley third fight from a fans perspective and the buzz is non-existent for the most part. Many fans were calling for a Pacquiao/Crawford fight and recent rumblings had a Pacquiao/Broner fight building all sorts of buzz. Arum quickly put the brakes on a Broner showdown and seems content regardless of the public interest to make this rubber match a reality.

WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford would have been a stellar choice and Crawford’s career would have benefitted immensely win or lose if Pacquiao had selected him as his next opponent. It would have also increased Crawford's value as a Top Rank fighter going forward.

“It’s a done deal and it’s going to be a third fight against Timothy Bradley. We took a lot of consideration knowing Bradley has improved a lot as a fighter since the last time they’ve met in 2014,” Arum said to the Manila Times“Bradley is happy about it of course and that’s really a competitive fight for Manny [Pacquiao]. The report about Adrian Broner fighting Pacquiao is untrue,” Arum said.

I guess we shall see how this all shakes out and whether or not the fight builds interest as the date approaches. My bet would be that the promotion will lean on the fact that Bradley is now trained by the esteemed Teddy Atlas and how the dynamic of this fight is different as a result.
