Quillin vs. Jacobs "The Battle For Brooklyn"
The Battle For Brooklyn
By Gil Quinones
Battle for Brooklyn, as it has been dubbed, presents a very interesting matchup in the middleweight division. On December 5, 2015, Peter ‘Kid Chocolate’ Quillin (32-0-1 23 KO) will take on Daniel ‘Miracle Man’ Jacobs (30-1- 27 KO) in a scheduled 12 round bout for the WBA World Middleweight title. This is a fight that will have big implications for the middleweight division.
Kid Chocolate briefly fell off the map before returning in his last fight to face ‘Irish’ Andy Lee in Brooklyn. It was a fan friendly fight with Quillin going down for the first time in his career in round 7 but also dropping Lee twice in rounds 1 and 3 en route to a split draw. It was not Quillin’s best performance especially since he came in overweight at 161.4 for a fight contracted at 160 but with his backing in Brooklyn and rivalry with Jacobs continuously building, it was only a matter of time before the two would meet.
The Miracle Man like Quillin is not coming off of his best performance. In his last outing, Jacobs fought a game Sergio Mora in a fight that was fan friendly from the initial bell. Both Jacobs and Mora would see the canvas in the first round only to have the fight stopped as Mora fractured his ankle and could not continue.
What makes this fight interesting is the vulnerabilities that both fighters displayed in their last outings. If their previous fights are any indication of what will happen tomorrow, then we can expect an action packed fight with knockdowns and plenty of drama. Will Kid Chocolate be able to maintain his “O” and continue his quest to dominate the middleweight division or will The Miracle Man be able to take the fight to him and retain his WBA belt and claim the title of Brooklyn? One thing is for sure, after tomorrow night there will be no question who the best middleweight in Brooklyn is.
