CARDIFF- Former amateur standout Katie Taylor (7-0,  4 KOs) took on former two-division world champion Anahi Sanchez (17-3, 9 KOs) of Argentina for the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) female lightweight title from the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. Sanchez vacated the title on the scales at the weigh in for the much anticipated bout with Taylor.

From the opening bell, Taylor came out firing fast, accurate combinations keeping her opponent off-balance, and unable to mount a steady attack of her own.

In Round two, Taylor dropped Sanchez with a beautiful left hook to the body which left Sanchez wincing in pain but able to get back to her feet and continue the fight.

In round three, Taylor landed a jab, right-hand combination which rocked Sanchez again, but the rugged Argentinian was able to remain on her feet and continue to press forward. Sanchez showed her championship pedigree pushing forward through the middle and late rounds, managing to land several big shots, but could not hurt the superior skilled Taylor.

In rounds nine, and ten Katie Taylor landed several big right hands, which snapped the head of Sanchez back and punctuated the fight.
All three judges had the score 99-90 in favor of Katie Taylor via unanimous decision.

Taylor showed superior boxing skills and the ability to box with quick precision against a more experienced former world champion in Sanchez. With the victory, she claims her first world title and places herself in the mix amongst the elite young fighters in the sport.
