Results: Lara knocks Foreman out in 4 rounds
By Joseph Correa
Hialeah Park Racing and Casino in Miami - WBA, IBO super welterweight champion Erislandy Lara (24-2-2, 14 KOs) came into the ring with a purpose as he needed only four rounds to stop former world champion Yuri Foreman (34-3, 10KOS)
The fight was the headlining bout for the Premier Boxing Champions series on Spike and it did not disappoint. Lara said coming into this fight that he wanted to stop his opponent inside of six rounds and he did so with a beautiful uppercut that Foreman never saw coming.
The fight started with both men feeling one another out and neither man landing anything significant. In the third round, Foreman went down on what looked like a slip which was ruled a knockdown.
In the fourth round, Lara came out more aggressive perhaps sensing that he had Foreman's number. Foreman was caught with a beautiful counter-uppercut which dropped him and left him visibly hurt as he struggled to get to his feet. The referee reached the full count of ten and waved the fight off declaring the winner by knockout victory, Erislandy Lara.
It'll be very interesting to see what happens from here. Some will criticize the win stating that Foreman was not a viable opponent but Lara did exactly what he was supposed to do which is win impressively. Hopefully, this win will propel him into some bigger name fights this year.
