BROOKLYN, NY – Premier Boxing Champions presents WBA World Super Welterweight Champion Erislandy Lara (24-2-2, 14 KOs) in his fifth title defence against undefeated Terrell Gausha (20-0, 9 KOs) in the headlining fight on the Showtime Championship Boxing triple-header on Saturday, October 14 at the Barclay’s Center.

Erislandy Lara has faced some challenges in training camp, with his Miami home and Houston training base both being recently affected by hurricanes that have swept the area, but has been able to overcome the obstacles:

"Training camp is going smooth as always… As far as the hurricanes, it flooded bad in the areas close to our gym, but we were only gone for a couple of days. I just want to say I’m praying for all those affected by the hurricanes in Houston, Miami and Puerto Rico."

Lara is ready to make a statement in the 154lb division and is thrilled to be included on a card that showcases the top contenders stating:

It’s a great honor (to be on the card), especially since I’m in the main event. It shows I’m the top fighter in the division. Getting the win by all means necessary will be my statement.” Adding that Terrell Gausha will not present any new challenges that will require any special strategy to overcome, “There’s nothing he does that I haven’t already seen. So, I’m just going to stick to my game plan and listen to my corner.

Terrell Gausha is also sticking to what he knows in his preparation for his October 14 title challenge, stating that he is not undertaking any different training methods in order to give him the edge over Lara.  At most, his team is exposing him to sparring partners whose styles closely resemble that of his opponent;

“They’re defensively skilled and as close as we could find to Lara’s style. He’s hard to mimic, but they’re close. We’re not really doing anything new, just working more rounds.”

In assessing the problems that Lara may present to him, Gausha is confident in his ability to present a credible threat to the long reigning 154lb champion;

I’ve been watching Lara for a while. I know he’s a mover. Guys like that are slick and he’s a good counter puncher. He’s a crafty veteran and has fought a lot of top guys. But, I have a lot of experience myself. I’m undefeated and it’s my time.

The triple-header also features unbeaten, heavy handed champion Jermall Charlo facing off against the rapidly rising Erickson Lubin and former champion Austin Trout attempts to steal the IBF title away from Jarrett Hurd. SHOWTIME commandeers the live coverage beginning at 10pm ET/7pm PT, and for those considering making the voyage to the home of Brooklyn Boxing at the Barclays Center, tickets are currently for sale starting at $50 (excl. fees) and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com, barclayscenter.com or by calling 800-745-3000.
