Alvarez vs. McGregor for UFC 205
By Edward Carbajal
The press conference scheduled for September 27 at Madison Square Garden got real interesting on Monday night. It was announced that Eddie Alvarez (28-4) will face Conor McGregor (20-3) for the lightweight title at the landmark New York event in November.
Alvarez has been calling for McGregor since he won the title in July by defeating Rafael Dos Anjos. Negotiations had been going on to finalize the bout in recent days while fans were awaiting match announcements with New York based fighters. After the press conference was announced on UFC Tonight last Wednesday it was said addition news was coming. McGregor was supposed to face Rafael Dos Anjos when he held that title at UFC 196 but was removed due to injury. That became the start of the McGregor vs. Diaz rivalry.
Maybe the 155 pound title is a magic number for “Mystic Mac” as it seems attempts to win that title have been very profitable for the UFC and all the competitors involved. However, he still holds the featherweight title and fans are starting wonder if that is fair to the division. Either way, UFC 205 and New York City just became the next big MMA event this year.
