Bellator 172 Main Event Break Down
By Edward Carbajal
When the main event of Bellator 172 was announced not even Matt Mitrione could not contain his excitement about facing Fedor Emelianenko. Bellator has even aired a countdown special for the growing fan base of mixed martial arts that might not be aware of what a fight like this brings to the table for Bellator MMA when they aired Countdown to Bellator 172: The G.O.A.T on Spike TV.
Mitrione has gone 2-0 since joining Bellator MMA and having been a former UFC contender, facing a man that is widely known as the greatest heavyweight in MMA history in Emelianenko is something MMA fans flock to. If you look at when Emeliananko faced Andre Arlovski in 2009 and Tim Sylvia in 2008 longtime fans were on the edge of their seats for those fights. This fight brings the same anticipation because in the fight game anything can happen.
Trying to predict an outcome for a match like this is hard and required some outside help so Frontproof Media tapped a man known in The MMA Community as “MMA Hawk” Matt Hawkins to look at the outcome of the main event of Bellator 172. Hawkins’ knowledge of the sport is encyclopedic and his passion for mixed martial arts has had him present at more events than fans could imagine. Listen to him help us out in trying to breakdown the main event.
It seems hard to pick against Emelianenko because of what he has done in his career. However, attitude counts for a lot and if there is any truth to the quote above the man that has the spirit to win will have his hand raised Saturday night.
