Bad Guy’s, old buildings, and MMA in New York was the theme of the day at Bellator MMA’s first press conference in “the world’s most famous arena.” Right near Viacom’s home in New York they are bringing Bellator MMA in at the right time, with the right card that was in the works recently. Bellator President Scott Coker has been saying for a while, the promotion’s first show in New York had to be a huge card.
Fighter’s like Chael Sonnen, Wanderlei Silva, Fedor Emelianenko, and Matt Mitrione are big enough to headline a card at Madison Square Garden June 24. Add lightweight champion Michael Chandler defending his title against Brent Primus and welterweight champion, Douglas Lima defending against latest free agent signee, Lorenz Larkin and you have an event worthy of matching what the UFC did in November, and WSOF did on New Year’s Eve last year.
Madison Square Garden has long been known as “The Mecca of Boxing”, given the historic bouts that the venue holds and continues to hold. Joel Fisher, Executive Vice President, Marquee Events and Operations spoke at the presser and said after hosting the above mentioned events, Bellator coming in June will make Madison Square Garden known as “The Mecca of MMA” as well.
