Bellator MMA Teases a Welterweight Tournament
Keep in mind, they did say "What if?"
But, what if they did do a tournament with their best 170-pound competitors?
Bellator used to do tournaments pre Coker era. When the former Strikeforce president took over the promotion he did away with their tournament format but did say he would reserve them for situations that would warrant one.
A “What if” post on social media asked how interested fans would be in a welterweight tournament.
Fight fans may remember Strikeforce did have a heavyweight tournament that a current UFC champion won and made a name for himself in.
Also, current lightweight champion Michael Chandler and former UFC and Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez cut their teeth in MMA as the result of the tournament format that was the standard in Bellator’s early days.
Do you think there's a tournament in the near Bellator future and if so, will you be watching?
