Chael Sonnen says there's some anxiety for the tournament
During the conference call for Bellator 192 Chael Sonnen said he has a little bit of anxiety fighting in the heavyweight tournament, but make no mistake he has a plan and the experience to fight his way through the tournament that begins January 20 at The Forum in Inglewood, California under the new Paramount Network. Sonnen faces Quinton "Rampage" Jackson in the opening round of the heavyweight tournament as the co-main event for Bellator 192.
Sonnen's comment was in response to a question regarding the weight class and his age on how it could affect him through the bracket should he advance. "I've been working with some teammates that are Rampage's if not bigger and I just got stopped," said Sonnen. "A lot of my techniques just don't work. I'll do everything perfect and hit those guys and 'boom' I just get stopped."
However, he said he does enjoy now knowing what will happen and that he enjoys the process. He got into grappling when he was out of MMA competition and recently got promoted to brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu which could bode well for him in the tournament. Regardless of what Sonnen admitted in the interview, he also let it be known because of his wrestling pedigree and love for the tournament format no one should be counting him out as he studies the bracket and looks to make it the end.
