Combate 14 Stacked for Cinco de Mayo
Campbell McLaren was not kidding when he said he’s putting on events almost every two weeks on social media. After having Combate 13 in Tucson Arizona, this Cinco de Mayo will be extra special in California when Combate 14 takes place at the Ventura County Fairgrounds.
Lightweight Jose “Froggy” Estrada (3-0) faces Emilio “The Ferocious Aztec” Chavez (11-9) in the main event that seems to be a great test for the young undefeated fighter. Estrada holds two wins by knockout and one submission victory this is the most experienced fighter he has faced but it would seem he has the tools to win.
Chavez’s record is bigger than Estrada and most of his wins come via decision. Fans have yet to see Estrada’s cardio tested so there is a good chance Chavez can earn a decision victory or a finish in the final round. Four of Chavez’s losses come by submission though so if “Froggy” gets him to the ground it could be dangerous for the 30-year-old fighter.
Combate 14 also features the return of the very well-rounded John Castaneda (12-2). The bantamweight tore through the ranks and almost was crowned the promotion's first champion if it were not for him missing weight at Combate America’s New York debut. However, the young mixed martial artist is still undefeated in the promotion and it seems he is looking to right the wrongs of the past when he faces Chris Beal.
If you are a fight fan in California for Cinco de Mayo, you may want to get yourself to Ventura County.
