It’s about to sexy in New York. Combate Americas announced that they will bring their first title fight to New York this fall with John “Sexy Mexy” Castaneda (11-2) facing Gustavo Lopez (6-1). They will be fighting for the promotion's first world bantamweight title and the timing could not be better. With all the MMA promotions finally being allowed to hold professional bouts in the state, it is fitting that Combate Americas would have their first world champion crowned in the Empire State.

Crowning champions is a good staple for an MMA promotion. When the sport began, there were no divisions or weight classes and a guy had to fight a few times in one night be called a champion. Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren knows this all too well as he was the co-founder of the UFC and brought the last UFC to New York in 1995 with UFC 7.

We are thrilled to be producing our first world title fight in Combate Americas history at our debut event in the Empire State

“John Castaneda and Gustavo Lopez put on some incredibly memorable and heroic performances during our ‘Road to the Championship’ fight series this year and last year, so we are looking forward to have these two budding, young stars square off and to crowning our first champion,” said McLaren. Frontproof Media had a chance to talk to Castaneda about his last bout at “Combate OCHO” and the accomplished young fighter already interviews like a champion. He will still have to back it up in October at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, N.Y. on Friday, October 14, live on beIN SPORTS En Español and UFC FIGHT PASS®.

He will have his hands full with Lopez who has had both Miesha Tate and Bryan Caraway in his corner and sports five knockouts from his six wins.

Tickets for “Combate Americas: Empire Rising” are on sale and can be purchased at the Turning Stone Box Office, by calling 877.833.SHOW, or online at Ticketmaster.com.  Tickets are priced at $75, for cage side, $65, $50 and $35, and may be subject to additional fees.  Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for the event, and the first preliminary bout will begin at 6 p.m.
