Conor McGregor gets a shout out at Michael Conlan press conference
Saint Patrick’s Day will be a little more Irish than usual for fight fans in New York City this weekend. Conor McGregor is going to accompany his countryman and Olympic boxer Michael Conlan into the ring Friday Night at Madison Square Garden where Conlan is making his pro debut.
It is not like the Irish have not been involved in combat sports before, but none have made the impact McGregor has made. Whether you are a fan or not of the “The Notorious” one, you likely are well aware of when he fights and where he is at because of all the Irish fans that are present at any event he takes part in. If Irish fight fans are a "sleeping giant", they will be awake this Friday.
Conlan will be facing Tim Ibarra (4-4, 1 KOs), of Denver in his debut and with energy from an Irish crowd on Saint Patrick’s Day in what is known as “The Mecca of boxing” the fight should be worth watching. He joins an elite group of Olympic medalists, including George Foreman, Evander Holyfield and Jermaine Taylor, to make his professional debut on boxing's most hallowed ground. Again, expect a big energized crowd because if this is anything like UFC 205, McGregor in New York on that particular day should make for an exciting night of boxing.
