Demetrious Johnson sets new record at UFC 216

While UFC 216 was not exempt from the recent trend of fights falling apart, it made for one of their better cards in their recent pay-per-views. An Interim Champion was crowned and a current champion defended his belt in a fashion that will be talked about till the end of the year.

The title run of Demetrious Johnson in the flyweight division was cemented last night with his win over Ray Borg, and beating Anderson Silva's record for the most title defenses in the UFC. He did it in the most electrifying fashion when in the final round of his fight with Ray Borg when he performed what looked like something out of Tekken in throwing Borg into a suplex, then adjusting mid-move to an arm bar for the finish. "King of the Flies", "Mighty Mouse", or pound for pound the best fighter in MMA, he has earned all three of those monikers last night.

Tony Ferguson has claimed the top position in the lightweight division currently available to him. He went three rounds with Kevin Lee in a fight where both men fought for what they believe is the true lightweight title in Conor McGregor's absence. Far from one sided, Lee was able to force his wrestling on Ferguson but it was El Cucuy 's submission game that would make the difference in the fight. Ferguson's time spent with Eddie Bravo's 10th Planet System paid off when he locked in a triangle choke for the finish.

In his post fight interview Ferguson had a message for McGregor.

Defend or vacate Mother F*cker!
— Tony Ferguson

The future bookings for the lightweight division should be very interesting for the UFC.
