Diaz vs. McGregor 2 official for UFC 200
By Edward Carbajal
During the broadcast of UFC Tonight the rumor that Nate Diaz would be facing Conor McGregor was verified and announced as official for UFC 200 in July. It was only earlier this month that Diaz was able to finish McGregor in round two of their match at UFC 196 on only ten days notice. It is said they are to do it again at the same weight class of welterweight and with four months for both men to prepare, is this going to be more of a war or will the odds makers favor Diaz given the outcome of their first fight?
This is a solid question in regards to the matchmaking decision to have these two go at it again. Diaz was unprepared whereas McGregor had already been preparing for a lightweight bout with Rafael Dos Anjos initially; remember Diaz was the last minute alternate. So, how do fight fans, and matchmakers for that matter think a full fight camp Nate Diaz will do in a second bout ?
Coincidently, the topic was brought up on Chael Sonnen’s podcast “You’re Welcome” when he had Diaz on as a guest the same day as the announcement. The episode is recorded on Tuesday and published on early Wednesday, the same day the bout was confirmed. Both men agreed, it doesn’t make a lot of sense and Diaz pointed out that it is odd McGregor is getting a rematch when other fighters have to work for them. Is it really that odd though?
Remember, both McGregor and Diaz are very open about wanting to make “big money fights” and considering the success of UFC 196, both men and the UFC are getting what they want. Frontproof Media will keep you posted as more bouts are announced for UFC 200.
