John “Sexy Mexy” Castaneda steps up for Combate Americas

The injury bug does not discriminate amongst MMA promotions. Combate Americas: CombateOCHO has had to make some last minute changes to the August 11 card. As reported earlier, Kyra Batara had to be removed due to injury and now Erick Sanchez has suffered a staph infection and was also removed.

However, in MMA when this happens it is usually an opportunity for other fighters to step up and get back in the action. John “Sexy Mexy” Castaneda an overall record of 10-2 (3-0 in Combate Americas), and was already under the impression he would be fighting on this card so he is happy to step and take the main event slot against Angel Cruz (5-2).

Frontproof Media had an opportunity to chat with Castaneda this week where he was generous enough to discuss his game plan for not only his upcoming fight, but his future in MMA. He tells us what he thinks of Cruz, his prediction, and what it means to fight for Combate Americas. Full interview below:

Doors at the Exchange LA open for the event at 5:30 p.m. PT, and the first preliminary card bout will begin at 6 p.m.  The live UFC FIGHT PASS stream will commence at 6:30 p.m.
