Jones returns, Johnson shines at UFC 197
By Edward Carbajal
The return of Jon Jones at UFC 197 saw him come back in decisive fashion, probably not as fans expected but still winning the Interim Light-heavyweight Title. UFC President Dana White cited “ring rust” as the reason Jones could not finish the fight. Demetrious “Might Mouse” Johnson cemented his greatness by handing Henry Cejudo his first loss in MMA.
The Jones vs. St Preux fight was expected to be more than what it was, Jones still dominated every round but he was also more cautious than fans have seen in the past. Considering the preparation he made for Cormier, an opponent he was familiar with it was smart to be extra cautious against the unfamiliar St Preux. St Preux being the late replacement for Cormier three weeks out had nothing to lose and even in defeat, he went the distance with Jones which White also said “raised his stock” after the fight.
The title fight that stood out was Demetrious Johnson’s first round finish of Henry Cejudo. Because of Cejudo’s undefeated record, it was expected he would give Johnson the toughest test to date but that didn’t happen. What did happen was Johnson underlined that he is the most dominant champion at flyweight and he seems to only be getting better.
