UFC middleweight Josh Samman (12-4) was in a coma for the last several days and it has reported that he has passed away this morning.  Gilbert Jamal Smith posted the sad news on social media Wednesday morning about the loss of his 28-year-old The Ultimate Fighter 17 training partner.

Samman was found in a coma and was in critical condition since Saturday morning according to the Tallahassee Democrat. He was found with his roommate and friend Troy Kirkinburg who was also an MMA ring announcer, Kirkinburg was pronounced dead on arrival according to the report.

The news is sad because Samman was a true renaissance man for MMA, he wrote for Bloody Elbow and published his autobiography “The Housekeeper: Love, Death & Prizefighting” where he wrote about all his good and bad experiences that drew him away from MMA for a while and how he came back to fighting.

While Samman suffered two losses in his last fights in the UFC, he was winning for the sport. He created Combat Night, a local MMA promotion in Tallahassee that was expanding in the state of Florida. Details surrounding the situation have been scarce but losing someone like Samman who was so open and inspirational in the MMA community is hard blow felt by all.

The reports of his death were confirmed by TMZ at the time of this posting.
