Main event breakdown: Bellator 153
By Edward Carbajal
Benson Henderson (23-5) makes his Bellator MMA debut at Bellator 153, this Friday live and free on Spike TV from the Mohegan Sun Arena at Uncasville, CT. This is his first fight since leaving the UFC where he was always ranked high in his weight class, he is getting a title shot. Welterweight champion Andrey Koreshkov (18-1) has the duty of welcoming the former UFC fighter in the main event and is the champ’s first fight since July of last year.
Koreshkov has put away a lot of fighters on his way to becoming champion. Of his 18 wins, ten come by way of KO/TKO and if he has the opportunity to plant his feet, he could pull one off against Henderson. However, Henderson is not known to stand still long enough for anyone to tee off on him as he is a constantly moving target.
Henderson holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and almost half of his wins by submission. The other half is by decision and considering his constant mobility, Koreshkov is going to need to be able to keep up with the former UFC Lightweight champion. This is a really good fight and could be anyone’s to win if they don’t spend a lot of time on the ground. If it does become a ground battle, the odds are in favor of Henderson. Not only is he a former champion himself but he competes regularly in Jiu-Jitsu tournaments so he most likely will look to go to the ground.
Henderson has more ways to win in this fight, who do you have?
The main card airs live and free on SPIKE at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT, while preliminary bouts can be seen here and at Bellator.com or the Bellator mobile app at 7p.m. ET.
