Invicta FC 21 was full of highlight reel finishes, odd round endings, and ended with a new champ for their featherweight division. The first event of 2017 for the all female mixed martial arts promotion set the bar high for MMA in 2017 and with a new interim featherweight champ, in a division that is emerging in the UFC next month Megan Anderson is wasting no time.

Invicta FC has been a strong springboard into the UFC for women in MMA. Many of the regional promotions on UFC Fight Pass know they are being watched by the same fan base and fighting there is a good opportunity to break into the flagship promotion for the sport. Anderson won the interim featherweight title with a head kick finish in the second round of the main event that left Charmagne Tweet unable to defend herself.

During her post fight interview, Anderson called for Dana White’s attention and said she wants the winner of the inaugural featherweight title bout of UFC 208. She told both Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie to “keep that belt warm”, for her because she is coming for it.

The fact is the title she won is Invicta’s interim featherweight title because the original title holder, Cris “Cyborg” Justino is currently dealing with a suspension. She was aware of the win and let it be known on social media with her Candyman reference.

If you don’t know the reference, Justino likened herself to the title character of the Candyman horror films that would appear to his victims if his name was called out too many times.

2017 is going to be an interesting year for the new women’s featherweight division in MMA.
