MMA Forethought: UFC 198
By Edward Carbajal
Even with Anderson Silva and Uriah Hall off the card, UFC 198 is still one hell of a card for Brazil. It has all the best and well known Brazilian MMA fighters on there, including Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino’s debut in the UFC. Fabricio Werdum (20-5-1) is facing Stipe Miocic (14-2) who called for his title shot at UFC 195 in January when he finished Andrei Arlovski by TKO. Can he do the same to Werdum?
That is a question both men are looking to answer this Saturday. However, Frontproof Media will attempt to give some forethought on how the fight may go down.
Werdum was the underdog against Fedor Emelianenko, and Cain Velasquez. Fights that people seem to see him losing, he manages to win. He has done so with his bread and butter Jiu-Jitsu and it served him well against the two former champions he faced. However, he has been known to take some damage in striking exchanges and has been TKO’d once. Miocic has the bulk of his wins by KO/TKO and he seems motivated enough to put Werdum away in his homeland of Brazil. It is also important to note that Miocic has never been submitted.
There is speculation that any fight that goes to decision will favor the Brazilian side of the card in Brazil. Review of all MMA events in Brazil would have to be done to back up that claim, but if that is the case a finish needs to happen for both men. Miocic needs another KO/TKO so there is no question of a win if he gets it, and Werdum needs to finish so there is no question as to how he won. That being said, with the motivation of fighting in Brazil and more so if he is the underdog, Werdum could pull off another surprise submission win.
