OSP, Andrade, and Saki rise at UFC Japan
The Saitama Super Arena in Japan has a history of some of mixed martial arts’ best fights and UFC Japan continued the trend. While Ovince Saint Preux added another finish to last minute opponent Yushin Okami, other fighters turned the tables on their opponent’s for highlight worthy finishes.
Jessica Andrade had a rough first round against Claudia Gadelha with Gadhela landing a lot of hard shots in high volume in the first round. However, all it seemed to do was add fuel to Andrade’s competitive fire as towards the end of that round, the following rounds would have her outworking the top ranked Strawweight for the win.
In only his second professional MMA fight, Gokhan Saki showed he could adjust his kickboxing to suit him well against Henrique Da Silva. Early and often Saki landed hard, heavy shots against Da Silva who absorbed the punishment to trade the Dutch striker. If Da Silva wanted to test himself, he now knows the result as a near finish with an elbow would backfire as Saki was able to dig deep and fire off combos even when he was in trouble.
