Pitbull spoils Souza’s debut at Bellator 152
By Edward Carbjal
Patricky “Pitbull” Freire (16-7) ruined the debut of Kevin Souza (15-5) this past weekend at Bellator 152. It should be noted that Souza came in as an alternate for an injured Derek Campos and even though he fought hard, Souza lost by decision to his fellow Brazilian. The event took place from Italy’s largest indoor arena, The Pala Alpitour and played well for local favorite Alessio Sakara (18-11).
Sakara has been fighting long before MMA had earned a reputation as one of the fastest growing sports. He fought in the UFC from 2006 to 2013 and the 34-year-old was fighting in his home country against a very heavy-handed Brian Rogers (12-9). Both Rogers and Sakara have a high rate of finishes by KO/TKO but Bellator 152 would favor Sakara as he was able to win the striking battle and score a second round TKO.
The eye-catching Muay Thai fighter from Russia, Anastasia Yankova (3-0) also made her Bellator MMA debut in memorable fashion. Yankova was able to score a submission win over Anjela Pink (0-1) in the first round keeping her undefeated record. Fans will most likely see her fight again soon; see the main card results below:
Patricky Friere def. Kevin Souza via unanimous decision (30-27 x3)
Alessio Sakara def. Brian Rogers via second-round KO (2:29)
A.J. McKee def. Danilo Belluardo via first-round TKO (2:44)
Anastasia Yankova def. Anjela Pink via submission (armbar) (R1, 1:35)
Daniele Scatizzi def. Daniele Miceli via first-round TKO (3:20)
