Shevchenko out strikes Holm at UFC on Fox 20
By Edward Carbajal
Valentina Shevchenko added another loss to Holly Holm’s record Saturday Night by being a better counter striker and just beating Holm at her own game. Holm started out strong but after the second round, she did not seem to have the confidence in her striking as the rounds wore on.
The first round was probably Holm’s best round as she scored a knockdown in the round. However, that seemed to wake Shevchenko up to how to beat Holm. If fans recall Holm’s win over Rousey a lot of it was due to Rousey trying to press Holm and Holm countering any advance. Shevchenko probably almost made that mistake and corrected it when she was knocked down as the later rounds showed her patient aggression. It was a problem Holm could not solve, Shevchenko was even able to score a few takedowns and control from top position securing the decisive win.
Fight of the Night was Jason Knight versus Jim Alers where Knight not only was able to win over the judges, but got himself a lot of new fans too. The fight was well deserved in winning the FOTN honor as it was a constant back and forth between Alers and Knight. Knight yelling at Alers that we will not be submitted during the fight has a lot of fight fans looking forward to seeing him again.
