UFC on Fox 19 from Tampa, Florida’s Amalie Arena saw Rashad Evans (19-5-1) get handed his second loss by KO by Glover Teixeira (25-4). The UFC veterans were both looking to make their argument for a run at current light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and facing the winner of the UFC 197 main event while Cormier heals from his injury. While it may have been hard for long time fight fans to watch Teixeira definitely let those ranked above him know, he’s not going anywhere.

The strawweight division has been one of the most exciting divisions in the UFC lately. So many women there are hungry to be champions and all at prime fighting age. The champion, Joanna Jędrzejczyk (11-0) is a fighter that Ronda Rousey herself holds in admiration for the tenacity in which she defends her belt. She needs to with fighters like Rose Namajunas (5-2) and Tecia Torres (7-1) looking for a shot at it. Both these women fought a great fight, however Namajunas seems to have evolved her game since the last time they faced each other.

Takedowns were reversed, punches were countered with fundamentals and like in her fight against Paige VanZant, Namajunas was focused on having fun in her fight. There were times it seemed she was getting too excited, but listening to her corner she knew when to reel back the energy and just flow with Torres. Both women have a background in traditional martial arts like Tae Kwon Do and Karate and both were on display. It would be Namajunas who was able to impose her will more and score judge’s decision and Torres her first loss. Most likely, Namajunas will face the winner of Jędrzejczyk vs. Gadelha from the TUF 23 finale in July.
