UFC Jumping into VR at UFC 212
The UFC is will be bringing folks some exclusive Virtual Reality content for UFC 212. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced partnerships with the UFC, X-Games and Live Nation and will be streaming UFC 212 as part of its venture with the promotion to push the Gear VR platform as a way for fight fans to enjoy live events like combat sports.
“We’re excited to partner with Samsung on this game-changing initiative to further revolutionize how fight fans consume our content and live events around the world,” said UFC Chief Operating Officer Ike Lawrence Epstein. The idea is not anything that hasn’t been done before. Bellator has already experimented with backstage action and ring entrances in Virtual Reality at their events in 2016. This is just giving them yet another way to further immerse themselves in their favorite sport. If the Virtual Reality bug catches on, you can expect to see more live events bring content to those that have the hardware to enjoy it that way.
UFC 212 will feature the main event that looks to get the featherweight division back in balance when Champion, Jose Aldo faces Interim Champ, Max Holloway.
