WSOF 30 bouts announced
World Series of Fighting is returning to Las Vegas for WSOF 30. The event will take place at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Saturday, April 2; live on NBCSN (11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT). The main event features Middleweight Champion David Branch vs. Clifford Starks and a co-main event that will have Jon Fitch and Joao Zeferino fighting for the vacant welterweight title.
Lately, the title bouts at WSOF seem to be the most sought after titles in MMA. At least, that is what recent bouts have shown when you look at the finishes from their last event. Branch holds two titles which is no easy feat in MMA as the list is short of fighters that have held titles in two weight classes. Even when it does happen, they do not get to hold two for long but Branch doesn’t want to fall into that category.
Starks is looking to lighten the Team Renzo Gracie fighter’s load as he has come off three consecutive victories with the promotion. Starks has a five-fight win streak since coming from Bellator MMA and with the wins earned at WSOF, he’s earned a shot at the 185 pound title.
The co-main event is bout for the vacant welterweight title previously held by Rousimar Palhares. Fans might remember the bout with Palhares had with Jake Shields wear he pulled some pretty dirty moves to defend the title. WSOF wasn’t having it so along with his suspension came the stripping of the title and Fitch has been circling for it since he lost to Palhares at WSOF 16. With a win over Yushin Okami after that, he more than deserves a shot at the title.
No easy task as Fitch will be facing Joao Zeferino who was the runner up in the WSOF 25 eight-man tournament. This is a heavier weight class for him but after having fought two men in one night, this may be easier for him in retrospect.
Priced from $29, tickets for WSOF30: Branch vs. Starks, are available for purchase online at WSOF.com and AXS.com.
