WSOF looks to purchase the MMA World Expo
By Edward Carbajal
In keeping with the theme of bringing MMA to New York, WSOF announced their intent to purchase the MMA World Expo held every December in the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan. The event has taken place there since 2009 and WSOF President Ray Sefo and CEO Carlos Silva were on hand last December. It was the last event hosted while there was still a ban on the sport in the state of New York. Page2Sports had reported WSOF’s intention to open offices in Manhattan when they unveiled their new logo at the expo as well as their support to lift the ban on professional MMA.
Along with owning and hosting the expo, they also plan to stage a series of bouts at the seventh annual affair this December. Only amateur MMA and kickboxing bouts were held at the event previously along with submission only grappling tournaments. But with professional MMA going forward in 2016, it could be a great opportunity for a lot of their east coast talent to compete.
David Branch, who is scheduled for this weekend’s WSOF 30 event was also at the expo last December signing autographs and taking photos with fans. If he manages to win this weekend he could be fighting at the event where he first saw the new logo on his belt.
